By 2024, youth hockey participation in Canada had declined by nearly 33% over the previous fifteen years, a decline that began well before the pandemic, after peaking at over half a million young people under the age of 18 playing the sport in 2010. According to various studies, the costs associated with equipment, ice time, training, and travel are too high for many families wishing to enrol their children in hockey.
That is why, with the support of partners and sponsors, a group of former minor hockey players from Rouyn-Noranda decided to reverse this trend by getting involved in their community to make playing this wonderful sport more accessible and affordable.

Sharing and hope once again animated the second edition of the RN Hockey Classic, which took place on April 18 and 19. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, the Indigenous Hockey Equipment Drive, numerous sponsors, the Maison de la Famille de Rouyn-Noranda and our beloved firefighters, this edition was able to offer the community more than 40 bags of equipment worth $35,000, and more than $8,000 raised.
We are sincerely grateful to La Maison de la Famille de Rouyn-Noranda for its involvement and support. Furthermore, we invite you to support the community initiatives of La Maison de la Famille de RN, which are essential to the well-being of the citizens of Rouyn-Noranda.

In 2025, more than fifty families were able to benefit from the efforts made by the participants, partners and sponsors of the first edition.
